KOTA KINABALU: Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin (pic) says he is willing to cooperate with any investigation over the “turtle eggs” controversy to clear his name.

The Sabah Deputy Chief Minister has claimed that a photograph of him having a meal with a plate of what looked like turtle eggs is fake and was doctored by irresponsible parties trying to tarnish his image.

“I am also not a fan of turtle eggs due to its cholesterol content which is not good for my health.

“Those were not turtle eggs as claimed by some irresponsible quarters, but hard-boiled chicken eggs which had been shelled.

“I am ready to be called in by relevant authorities for investigation should there be any further need,” he said in a statement late Friday (June 25).

Bung said that the picture was taken a month ago.

The Kinabatangan MP came under fire on Friday (June 25) when a photograph of him having a meal with a plate of what looked like turtle eggs on the dining table went viral.

The photo was first shared by Tanjung Aru assemblyman Datuk Junz Wong.

Later, the man who was pictured with Bung said that the photo was his, and also claimed it had been doctored.

Possession and consumption of turtle eggs are prohibited under the Sabah Wildlife Enactment 1997.

State Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Jafry Ariffin had said that the state Wildlife Department had been asked to look into the matter.
