ISKANDAR PUTERI: The Iskandar Puteri City Council (MBIP) will allow individuals who have been fully vaccinated to dine in at eateries within the jurisdiction starting Friday (Aug 20).

MBIP mayor Datuk Haffiz Ahmad said that fully-vaccinated people would also be allowed to go camping, exercise outdoors and go to night markets and weekend markets.

He said the easing of the restrictions of the activities under Phase One of the National Recovery Plan (NRP) was in line with the announcement by the National Security Council (NSC) on Thursday (Aug 19).

Caretaker Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said the easing of the restrictions were among those agreed on at the NSC meeting.

“Most probably, eatery operators will take at least two to three days before they are ready to allow diners to eat at their outlets,’’ said Haffiz.

He said this to reporters after visiting the mobile Covid-19 Vaccination Outreach Programme at the Kampung Sungai Melayu community hall here.

Haffiz said despite the easing of the restrictions for those who had completed their vaccination, they should continue following the standard operating procedures (SOPs).

Separately, he said MBIP was fully prepared in case of floods following the recent heavy downpour in Johor Baru and Iskandar Puteri.

Haffiz said the council has been coordinating with relevant agencies including the Public Works Department (PWD) and the Drainage and Irrigation Department (DID).

“The PWD will closely monitor road conditions if they are damaged or there are potholes due to the floodwaters,’’ he said adding that the DID would monitor the waterways.

Meanwhile, Johor Baru District Officer Datuk Abdul Rahman Salleh said several schools and community halls in Johor Baru and Gelang Patah have been gazetted as temporary flood relief centres.

He said the relevant agencies and departments involved in evacuating flood victims need to observe the standard SOPs for the Covid-19 pandemic.

“The flood victims also have to follow the SOPs including physical distance and will be placed in an individual tent at the centre,’’ said Abdul Rahman.
