PETALING JAYA: The government will discuss on penalties for civil servants who refuse to get vaccinated against Covid-19, says Khairy Jamaluddin.

The Health Minister said the ministry will discuss the matter with the Public Service Department (JPA).

“The MOH will talk to the JPA on what action can be taken against civil servants who are yet to be vaccinated.

“The action is for those who refused and not due to any health reason,” he told a media conference in conjunction with his working visit to Kedah at Wisma Darul Aman in Alor Setar on Sunday (Sept 19).

He said he has also requested employers in certain sectors to impose conditions that workers must get vaccinated if they want to return to work.

On Sept 3, Khairy said he would discuss with Education Minister Datuk Radzi Jidin for a mandate on vaccination for teachers, because making it compulsory or otherwise had its own legal implications.

Khairy noted that it was necessary to locate those who are still adamant to come forward to be inoculated against Covid-19.

He said the vaccination coverage in many areas has become saturated now, following the growing vaccination rate.

“We have more vaccine doses than the arms now, that’s why we won’t be able to administer as many as 500,000 jabs a day. We are almost at the end now.

“However, there are still certain areas like in Kedah at Sik, Pendang and Baling, where thorough outreach is needed to comb through each house, check properly and identify the anti-vaxxers for us to focus on,” he added.
