PETALING JAYA: The King has consented on Friday (Aug 6) that a motion of confidence be tabled in Parliament in September, as mooted by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, says Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu.

The newly appointed special adviser to the Prime Minister said this at a press conference after visiting the IDCC Shah Alam vaccination centre.

“First and foremost, as an MP, I would like to advise everyone that we should fight our common enemy which is the Covid-19 virus which is affecting our lives. Other issues should be second.

“Today, the King granted an audience to Muhyiddin and agreed to a vote of confidence in the Dewan Rakyat in September. There is no need to play polemics with the issue of vote of confidence until then.

“To politicians, cut down your politics. Even I, as a politician, am fed up with the politicking, what more non-politicians?

“The government is not perfect, nor is the opposition.

“We should prioritise the safety, health and economy of the people. After that, you can fight amongst yourselves,” said Ahmad Faizal who is Tambun MP.

He also thanked the Barisan Nasional MPs who have stuck by the Perikatan Nasional government and Muhyiddin as they knew the need to prioritise the people’s interests.

“I thank those who supported Perikatan and the Prime Minister, not because we are perfect but because we prioritise the people’s interests,” said Ahmad Faizal.

In his role as the adviser to the Prime Minister, Ahmad Faizal said he would focus on listening to the people’s woes on the ground and conveying them to Muhyiddin and the Cabinet.

“I am only an adviser to the Prime Minister and I have four officers as staff members. I thank him for my appointment, as he is facing so many crises, including the political crisis.

“I am committed to assisting him from the health and economic crises, especially engaging with the people, to meet with the people on the ground as it is not easy for him during a pandemic.

“I will listen to the complaints from the people and inform the Prime Minister and the Cabinet. This pandemic, we have to up our efforts to listen to the people,” said Ahmad Faizal.

He also called upon more Klang Valley residents to get vaccinated by walking into the PPVs such as the IDCC Shah Alam.

On Aug 3, Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said he has gathered a sufficient number of statutory declarations (SD) from party MPs who are withdrawing their support for Muhyiddin, thus effectively meaning that he has lost his majority.

The next day, following an audience with the King in the morning, Muhyiddin declared that he still had the majority support and would be taking a vote of confidence when Parliament reconvened in September to prove his legitimacy as the premier.
