PETALING JAYA: Construction will not resume at an accident site along the Damansara-Shah Alam Highway (DASH) and nine other locations until the government is satisfied with the safety measures taken, says Lembaga Lebuhraya Malaysia.
This follows the collapse of a metal scaffolding along the Sungai Buloh-Kota Damansara stretch of the DASH on Saturday, which injured two workers, one of whom died due to severe internal and head injury.
In a statement Monday (June 21), LLM said it would ensure that works involving scaffolding for falsework at 10 locations, including the accident site, would not resume as directed by Projek Lintasan Damansara Shah Alam Sdn Bhd (PLDSASB).
“Discussion and site visits by the Occupational Safety and Health Department (DOSH), PLDSASB, consulting engineer Zaidun Leeng Sdn Bhd, freelancer consulting engineer Rainhill Bersekutu Sdn Bhd (RBSB) and main constructor Malaysian Resources Corporation Berhad (MRCB) was held on June 19, 20 and 21.
“LLM has also directed PLDSASB, ZLSB and RBSB to conduct further assessment and inspection on the incident, which includes safety factors, method statement, procedure requirements and documentation, surveillance and other aspects that may have contributed to the incident,” it said.
LLM said it has also discussed with the concession company and consultants including Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM), DOSH and National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) to review improvements for the construction works of the new highway.
