SIBU: Twelve youths were issued compound notices of RM4,000 each for defying the movement control order on Thursday (June 24).

Sibu OCPD Asst Comm Stanley Jonathan Ringgit said the 12, aged 15 to 21, were caught in a group without observing physical distancing in front of a house in Jalan Punai here.

“At about 8pm last night (June 24), an SOP monitoring team led by ASP Kushairy Bujang went to a house in Jalan Punai for inspection. They found 12 youths loitering and not observing social distancing,” he said on Friday (June 25).

The team issued the compound notices on the spot for the offence under Section 17(1) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures Within Infected Local Areas) Regulations 2021.

“All of them will have to settle the compound notice of RM4,000 within 14 days,” ACP Stanley said.

He added that eight motorcycles belonging to members of the group were also inspected and a total of 33 summonses issued to the owners for various offences under Section 60 of the Road Transport Act 1987.
