PETALING JAYA: Victims of the LRT crash currently receiving medical treatment at Hospital Kuala Lumpur (HKL) are making good progress towards recovery, says Transport Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.
Dr Wee, who updated the recovery status of several victims on Facebook, also said family members will be allowed to visit their loved ones in HKL, as the Transport Ministry has issued a letter to the police that would allow them to travel during the 14-day total lockdown that began Tuesday (June 1).
Among the victims currently undergoing critical care in HKL was a 52-year-old who underwent a 10-hour surgery on Monday (May 31) afternoon, said Dr Wee.
“The surgery was successfully carried out on Monday afternoon, followed by a separate successful surgery done at 11pm on the same day to correct the patient’s facial structure.
“Kudos and thank you to the HKL medical staff who performed the 10-hour surgery,” he said.
“Meanwhile, I have been informed that a 37-year-old patient has shown further improvement from before,” he added.
At the same time, Dr Wee said another 26-year-old female victim has been transferred to the regular ward from the ICU after making good progress towards recovery.
“She is now able to speak with her family and reply to her WhatsApp messages,” he said
“Once again, our deepest gratitude to the doctors and entire staff of HKL,” he added.
Prasarana Malaysia Bhd has said that unlimited counselling sessions by the Social Welfare Department will be provided for victims and their family members.

Prasarana has said that it would provide special assistance of RM1,000 and other necessary assistance.
Last Monday (May 24), two LRT trains collided in a tunnel between the Kampung Baru and KLCC stations at the Kelana Jaya line.
