MA63: Wan Junaidi seeks full support on proposed bill to amend Federal Constitution

KUCHING: Minister In the Prime Minister’s Department (Parliament and Law) Datuk Seri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar (pic) has excessive hopes that the individuals of Sabah and Sarawak will support him on the proposed Bill to amend the Federal Constitution, with regard to the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).

He stated the proposed Bill was scheduled for the second studying within the Dewan Rakyat this Tuesday (Dec 14) after the primary studying on Nov 3.

“The passing of the Bill may pave the way in which for extra rights that had been eroded over time, to be returned to the peoples of Sabah and Sarawak.

“This is one in all my priorities for the time being,” he stated in a press release, right here on Sunday (Dec 12).

On Nov 3, the federal government tabled the Constitution (Amendment) Bill 2021 for first studying within the Dewan Rakyat which, amongst others, seeks to insert point out of the states of Malaya and the Borneo states. The Bill was tabled by Wan Junaidi.

The Bill proposes to amend Article 1 of the Federal Constitution by changing Clause 2 to say the states of the Federation comprise:

(a) the states of Malaya, specifically Johor, Kedah, Kelantan, Melaka, Negeri Sembilan, Pahang, Perak, Perlis, Penang, Selangor and Terengganu; and

(b) the Borneo states, specifically Sabah and Sarawak.

Meanwhile, Wan Junaidi stated for the previous two days, he had been busy assembly with constituents and members of the general public in Sarawak to share the progress of key authorities transformation initiatives spearheaded by his ministry, and on the forefront was the proposed Bill.

He stated the three different main authorities transformation initiatives undertaken by him and his ministry had been the Transformation in Government Administration, Parliamentary reforms and Independence of the Judiciary.

Transformation in Government Administration consists of anti-party hopping legislation, limiting the tenure of the Prime Minister to no more than 10 years, implementation of Undi 18, and computerized voters’ registration, he stated within the assertion.

He stated Parliamentary reforms, in the meantime, consisted of Reintroducing the Parliamentary Services Act, amendments to the Houses of Parliament (Privileges and Powers) Act 1952, and introducing the Members of Parliament Code of Ethics.

“Undi 18 and computerized registration of voters are anticipated to be carried out by Jan,1 2022, whereas the Bill on Parliamentary reforms is scheduled to be introduced to the Speakers by mid-January of subsequent yr and tabled in Parliament in March.

“The Bill on anti-party hopping legislation is anticipated to be tabled by July subsequent yr,” he stated.
