Malaysia’s exports, imports unit value indices record growth in February

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia’s export and import unit value indices recorded optimistic growth in February 2022, at 2.1 per cent and 1.3 per cent, respectively, in keeping with the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DoSM) External Trade Indices report for February 2022.

Chief statistician Malaysia Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Uzir Mahidin mentioned the export unit value index’s growth was supported by the will increase in mineral fuels (8.0 per cent), animal and vegetable and oil fat (2.2 per cent), in addition to equipment and transport gear (0.7 per cent) indices.

“On the opposite hand, the export quantity index fell 9.8 per cent in the identical month, mirrored by the deterioration in the manufactured items (-14.9 per cent), equipment and transport gear (-12.2 per cent) and miscellaneous manufactured articles (-10.9 per cent) indices,” he mentioned in an announcement.

Mohd Uzir mentioned the seasonally adjusted export quantity index grew 2.8 per cent from 155.6 factors to 160.0 factors, whereas year-on-year (y-o-y), each export unit value and quantity index continued to develop at 16.4 per cent and 0.3 per cent, respectively.

Meanwhile, he mentioned the import unit value index’s growth was pushed by the advance in mineral fuels (9.0 per cent), animal and vegetable oils and fat (1.2 per cent) and chemical compounds (0.2 per cent) indices.

Conversely, the import quantity index fell by 12.0 per cent in February 2022 in comparison with January 2022, as a result of deterioration in the index of manufactured items (-16.3 per cent), equipment and transport gear (-13.1 per cent), and chemical compounds (-10.4 per cent).

“The seasonally adjusted import quantity index in February 2022 elevated by 0.4 per cent from 169.7 factors to 170.3 factors.

“On a y-o-y foundation, each import unit value and quantity indices expanded 7.5 per cent and 10.1 per cent, respectively,” he mentioned.

DoSM additionally reported that Malaysia’s phrases of commerce elevated by 0.8 per cent month-on-month to 109.9 factors in February 2022, whereas y-o-y, it confirmed a optimistic growth of 8.3 per cent.
