KUCHING: A 49-year-old man has pleaded not guilty in a Magistrate’s Court here to a charge of using the title “Darjah Paduka Mahkota Palembang”, an unrecognised foreign award carrying the title “Dato”.
Riben Rinah was charged on Tuesday (May 18) under Section 12 (2) of the Offences Relating to Awards Act 2017 and faces imprisonment of up to three years if found guilty.
He is accused of committing the offence at the premises of a company at Riveredge Commercial Centre at Jalan Tun Abdul Rahman Yaakub here in August 2019.
Kuching Lower Court assistant registrar Sataia Kombi, who sat in for Magistrate Zaiton Anuar, set June 21 for mention.
The court allowed Riben to be released on bail of RM1,500 with two sureties.
ASP Rogayah Rosli prosecuted while Riben was represented by counsels Bartholomew Lopez and Wejok Tomik.
