IPOH: A shop assistant has been found dead at the Buntong wet market here.
Ipoh OCPD Asst Comm A. Asmadi Abdul Aziz said police were informed about the body of the 31-year-old victim, known only as “Boy”, on Sunday (May 30) at about 1.15pm.
ACP A. Asmadi said the man is believed to have been assaulted prior to his death.
“A witness said that four men had gone into a shop to look for him.
“Shortly after they entered the room, the witness heard some noise and after the men left, the victim was found lying on the floor,” he told reporters when met at the scene.
“The victim’s mobile phone was also missing,” he said, adding that initial investigation found the victim had also been unwell.
ACP A. Asmadi said the police are trying to determine the motive of the incident.
“The victim had just started working at the shop a few months ago.
“He had at least seven prior offences in his criminal record involving drugs and criminal breach of trust,” ACP A. Asmadi said.
“The victim’s body has been brought to the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital for a post-mortem,” he said, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, which carries the mandatory death penalty upon conviction.
