MELAKA: Eleven men have been arrested for allegedly displaying the logo of a banned triad gang during a funeral procession at Durian Tunggal here.

Melaka police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Abdul Majid Mohd Ali said they acted after a 20-second video taken by onlookers showed the suspects, aged between 24 and 42 attending the funeral and exhibiting the logo of the banned triad group.

“A police report was lodged over the video on July 7 before we raided and detained the suspects at various locations here. We are looking for two more suspects to assist us in the investigation,” he said on Wednesday(July 14).

He said the men were seen hoisting a hearse with a bouquet of flowers in the shape of the gang’s logo and added that the hearse was carrying the body of a man who died in a road accident on July 6.

DCP Abdul Majid added that police personnel have also seized several items from the suspects.

The case is being investigated for breach of standard operating procedures during Phase One of the National Recovery Plan and offences related to the Societies Act.
