Missouri Highway Patrol mistakenly sends Batman-themed smartphone alert

JEFFERSON CITY, Missouri: The Missouri State Highway Patrol alert despatched cellphones blaring statewide: Authorities in Gotham City, Missouri, have been trying to find a purple and inexperienced 1978 Dodge 3700GT.

But there isn’t a Gotham City, Missouri, and the automotive referenced was the one utilized by the Joker within the 1989 Batman film. Soon after the Tuesday night alert, the patrol despatched one other saying to ignore it.

In a quick information launch, the patrol mentioned a routine check of Missouri’s Blue Alert system was inadvertently transmitted statewide. The system is supposed to let the general public know when a police officer is killed or severely injured within the line of obligation.

“During the test, an option was incorrectly selected, allowing the message to be disseminated to the public,” the information launch said. A message left with patrol on Wednesday in search of extra info wasn’t instantly returned. – AP
