KLANG: There was excessive drama alongside coastal waters of Selangor in the course of the wee hours of Tuesday (Oct 19) as a overseas vessel tried to sneak some 40 unlawful immigrants into the state.

The Selangor Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Company (MMEA) acquired a tip-off {that a} vessel had departed Tanjung Balai, Asahan, Sumatra heading for Selangor at 9pm on Monday.

“At about 12.20am (Tuesday) the MMEA’s ocean monitoring system in Klang detected the vessel transferring from Permatang Sedepa to Morib,” mentioned Selangor MMEA director Kapten Maritim Rosli Kassim in an announcement.

Aided by a Navy vessel, an MMEA enforcement boat approached the vessel, KM Sinar Utama, at 2am on Tuesday.

“When ordered to cease, the skipper sped up the boat and tried to flee.

“The 2 vessels flanked it and gave chase to forestall the boat and its 40 unlawful immigrants from docking on the seaside”, mentioned Kapt Rosli.

The chase went on for nearly an hour and a half earlier than the vessel left Malaysian waters.

“Stopping makes an attempt of sneaking in unlawful immigrants into the nation through sea is a precedence for MMEA,” mentioned Kapt Rosli, including that the company was conducting routine monitoring across the clock.
