MELAKA: The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) has foiled an attempt to smuggle out syabu to a neighbouring country in waters near Kuala Linggi here.

Negri Sembilan/Melaka MMEA director Maritime Capt Haris Fadzillah Abdullah said the seizure was made after a sea chase at 2.30am on Friday (May 28), 11.6 nautical miles off the Tanjung Dahan coast.

“We arrested two Indonesians aged 34 and 43, who had no identification documents with them,” he said.

Capt Haris Fadzilah said MMEA officers who were on patrol under Ops Belangkas 3/2021 noticed a speedboat with two men who attempted to speed away when they saw the officers.

The MMEA team gave chase and eventually cornered the suspects, he said, adding that 10 green packages containing powder believed to be syabu and weighing about 10kg were found concealed in a compartment on the speedboat.

He added that the seized drugs and speedboat, estimated to be worth RM450,000 in total, were brought to the Kuala Linggi Maritime Jetty for further action.

The case is being investigated under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and Immigration Act 1959/63.
