Moderate quake rocks Java in Indonesia, no tsunami threat to Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: A reasonable earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale hit Java, Indonesia, at 8.26am Monday (Jan 17).

According to an announcement from the Malaysian Meteorological Department, the epicentre of the quake was positioned 160km south-west of Sukabumi, Indonesia, at a depth of 78km.

However, it didn’t pose a tsunami threat to Malaysia, the assertion stated. – Bernama
