PETALING JAYA: More people are lodging police reports to falsely claim that their identification cards were stolen when they actually just misplaced them, say Selangor police.

State police chief Comm Datuk Arjunaidi Mohamed said police recorded 108 false reports of this nature in the first four months of this year.

“Only 60 were recorded last year during the same time span.

“In total, 86 cases have been charged in court, with 82 more still under investigation.

“The main reason why fake police reports are lodged is due to the fines incurred for lost ICs due to negligence. An exception to the fines would be given if the loss was due to criminal incidences,” he said.

He urged all to not lodge fake reports for their personal benefit.

“The authenticity of the report will be found through detailed investigations,” he said.
