The Penang state authorities and Langkawi Development Authority (LADA) will be part of forces to beef up the nation’s tourism competitiveness to make Malaysia a vacation spot of alternative in the area.

Penang State Executive Councillor for Tourism and Creative Economy (PETACE), Yeoh Soon Hin stated each Penang and Langkawi have been among the many tourist hotspots with the previous being steeped in cultural heritage and the latter providing pristine nature and splendid seashore actions.

“If we work with the other states and entice travellers to visit other Malaysian destinations, we will see the traveller’s expenditure and spending being retained within Malaysia, which will have economic effects on our tourism ecosystem and local communities.

“People always see Penang and Langkawi as competitors, which in reality, are a perfect duo that complement each another to make a complete package,” he stated in a press release.

The assertion was issued earlier this week following the signing of a Letter of Intent (LoI) between the Penang authorities, represented by Yeoh, and LADA chief government officer, Nasaruddin Abdul Muttalib, and witnessed by Penang Yang di-Pertua Negeri, Tun Ahmad Fuzi Abdul Razak.

Yeoh stated Penang and LADA had principally agreed to ascertain a joint working committee for cross promotion, particularly on Unesco listings, particularly, the Langkawi Unesco Global Geopark and Penang Hill Unesco Biosphere Reserve. – Bernama
