Murdered girl Irene’s ashes interred at memorial park after solemn ceremony

SIBU, Nov 21: Student, Irene Chung who was murdered in Taiwan on Oct 29, was peacefully laid to rest at Nirvana Memorial Park here today in a solemn funeral ceremony.

Only 80 persons were allowed in the hall due to strict standard operating procedures even though it could accommodate up to 200 persons at a time.

Among those present at the ceremony were her family members, relatives, friends, family’s lawyer Yap Hoi Liong and Progressive Democratic Party (PDP)president, Dato Seri Tiong King Sing.

Chung’s elder brother, Daniel paid tribute to her in his eulogy. According to Daniel, her sister was a person who cared for others.

“She was kind and caring. Every year, she never forgets our birthdays including that of our parents. When she was at home and even when she was in Taiwan, we always discussed what to buy for our parents’ birthday,” he said.

Irene’s close friend Bryan Hii in his brief eulogy remembered her as a very good and religious person who was always there to help her friends.

Chung 24-year, student of Chiang Jung Christian University in Tainan, Taiwan was found dead on Oct 29 and an arrested suspect had confessed to the killing.

According to the CNA report, the suspect had admitted killing the woman by strangulation and disposing of her body. The woman was found missing on the evening of Oct 28.

CNA reported that the victim had been abducted and the next day the police arrested a suspect named Liang.

Her parents, Desmond Chung and Ting Ching Ching had flown to Taiwan on Oct 30 following news of her death to bring her remains back which were placed in an urn. – DayakDaily
