Myanmar says absence from ASEAN summit on account of “denial” of junta officers

(Reuters) – Myanmar’s ruling junta stated on Tuesday it was not attending a regional summit as a result of the Affiliation of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) didn’t invite officers from its authorities.

“Myanmar’s absence on the ASEAN Summits on account of denial for the Head of State or Head of Authorities or his Ministerial stage illustration, doesn’t intend to point out its protest in opposition to ASEAN or to boycott ASEAN,” a Ministry of Overseas Affairs statemnt stated on the primary evening of the summit.

Junta chief Min Aung Hlaing seized energy from a civilian authorities in a navy coup on Feb. 1.
