Nigerian gunmen assault jail, 575 detainees lacking

ABUJA (Reuters) – Gunmen attacked a jail in Nigeria’s Oyo State late on Friday and freed over 800 inmates by pressure, the state jail service stated in a press release on Saturday.

The jail service stated the attackers had been closely armed “with subtle weapons” and, after an trade of gunfire with jail officers, gained entrance into the jail yard by blasting the partitions with dynamite.

Some 575 inmates had been lacking whereas 262 escapees had since been captured, it stated.
