No devotees allowed at temples during Wesak Day, says National Unity Ministry

PUTRAJAYA: No devotees will be allowed at temples for Wesak Day under the movement control order (MCO 3.0) standard operating procedures (SOP) announced by the National Unity Ministry.

In a statement Monday (May 24), the ministry said there can only be 10 people consisting of a monk and committee members for the Wesak Day ritual.

“Only one ritual session per temple is allowed on Wesak Day, between 6am and 2pm.

“The Buddha-decorated float procession is not allowed. Interstate and inter-district travel is also restricted, ” it said.

The ministry said the SOPs were approved at a special National Security Council (NSC) meeting on Covid-19 management on May 21.

The meeting was chaired by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

Wesak Day falls on May 26.
