No oil royalties for Peninsular Malaysia states, together with Kelantan, says Finance Ministry

KUALA LUMPUR: Putrajaya is not going to pay oil royalties to any states in Peninsular Malaysia, together with Kelantan, says the Finance Ministry.

Nonetheless, Kelantan will proceed receiving “wang ehsan” (goodwill funds) for the petroleum that was produced close to its coast, stated the ministry in a Parliamentary written reply dated Nov 24.

The Finance Ministry was responding to Ahmad Fadhli Shaari (PN-Pasir Mas), who requested the Finance Ministry if Putrajaya might be paying Kelantan any oil royalties.

The Finance Ministry stated though petroleum was being produced near Kelantan, it happened outdoors the state’s waters.

The goodwill funds are to help Kelantan to implement initiatives and packages that can profit the individuals.

“No money funds (might be made) by Petronas, particularly for the manufacturing of petroleum in any states in Peninsular Malaysia, together with Kelantan.

“This was as a result of the petroleum manufacturing web site is working outdoors of Kelantan’s waters,” he stated.
