PETALING JAYA: There is no joy for residents in Selangor who have been eager to de-stress in public parks, as major recreational parks in the cities will remain closed.

Both Petaling Jaya and Subang Jaya city councils have confirmed that they will not be reopening the big parks under their jurisdiction, just yet.

There is, however, good news for residents in the municipality of Selayang.

Its local council told The Star that all public parks, lake parks and recreational parks under its management will reopen today.

Among them are Taman Tasik Sri Gombak, Taman Tasik KUB Rawang, Laman Bestari Selayang Utama and Taman Tasik Country Homes.

“Park users are reminded to adhere to the Covid-19 standard operating procedure when using these facilities,” said a council spokesman.

As at press time, Shah Alam City Council has not updated the status of parks in the state capital, which have been closed since the start of Phase 1 of the National Recovery Plan (NRP).

The National Security Council (NSC) announced on Sunday that people living in states under Phase 1 of the NRP are allowed to visit public parks in neighbourhoods for recreational activities as of yesterday.

Its guidelines state that only individual activities such as jogging, cycling and exercising are allowed, with physical distancing in place.

People are not allowed to cross districts or states to visit other recreational parks.

In line with the NSC announcement, Subang Jaya City Council said that only recreational parks located within neighbourhoods are allowed to open from 7am until 8pm daily, while the eight major parks within its jurisdiction remained closed.

Meanwhile, all public parks in Kuala Lumpur are now open, including the very popular Taman Tasik Titiwangsa and Taman Rimba Kiara, from 7am until 7.30pm daily.

Kuala Lumpur City Hall reminded park-goers to adhere to the SOP strictly.

The National Landscape Department also announced that Taman Persekutuan Bukit Kiara in Taman Tun Dr Ismail (TTDI) would reopen.
