JOHOR BARU: The National Security Council (NSC) will take over management of the Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) Skudai campus here during the enhanced movement control order period from Friday (May 21) until June 3.

In a statement on Thursday (May 20), the university said the implementation of enhanced MCO at the Skudai campus was in accordance with Section 18 (1)(d) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988.

“The enhanced MCO is to enable the Health Ministry to conduct early detection of Covid-19 cases that need to be isolated immediately and prevent the spread of infection outside campus.

“From Friday, the control of the campus area will be taken over completely by NSC. All the needs and welfare of the staff and students who live on campus will be managed by the council, ” the statement reads.

The statement also said there were several matters that the whole UTM community needed to comply with during the enhanced MCO, including the cessation of all physical operations on campus.

The staff will be required to work from home, with only UTM health centre employees allowed to be on campus grounds.

According to the statement, the university’s main gate will remain open until 5pm on Thursday for office-related matters.

“Students are not allowed to leave the campus effective immediately while food delivery services are allowed until 10pm on Thursday night.

“Those who are working under essential services must stay on campus during the enhanced MCO period while all cafeterias and shops at the campus will be closed, ” it said.

The statement added that the welfare of its community, especially students and staff on campus, was a priority.

“All UTM community members are advised to remain calm, abide by the standard operating procedures (SOP) issued by NSC and the Health Ministry, and not spread unverified information related to the pandemic.

“The latest update on Covid-19 cases in UTM will be issued daily via e-mail. In addition, reminders of SOP practices will also be disseminated from time to time through all the university’s official media platforms, ” it said.
