Online Privacy Bill Clears Early Hurdle in House

WASHINGTON—Bipartisan laws to determine broad privacy rights for customers gained approval from a House subcommittee on Thursday, including to its momentum.

Lawmakers accepted the invoice, the American Data Privacy and Protection Act, on a voice vote with no dissent. It now strikes to the total Energy and Commerce Committee for a vote. The invoice nonetheless faces an extended and probably troublesome path, notably in the Senate.
