PETALING JAYA: All transactions and services provided by agencies under the Transport Ministry will be temporarily halted in light of the 14-day total lockdown beginning Tuesday (June 1).

The ministry said only commercial vehicle operators who come under essential services involved in interstate travel will be allowed to meet with agencies under the Transport Minister by appointment.

For matters pertaining to the Road Transport Department (JPJ), those holding the driving licence (LM), motor vehicle licence (LKM), and vocational license (PSV/GDL), whose licences were due to expire between June 1 and July 31 will be allowed to renew their respective licences in 60 days, beginning August 1 to Sept 30.

In a statement, the ministry said LKM holders whose licence have expired must ensure that their respective vehicle possesses valid vehicle insurance and they must show a copy of the e-cover note when asked by authorities.

Counters for matters pertaining to the change in vehicle ownership will be temporarily closed, but such matters can be done online through the e-auto or the MyEG platform, said the ministry.

Meanwhile, for the Land Transport Department and the Sabah and Sarawak Commercial Vehicle Licensing Board (LPKP), exemptions on renewing licences and permits will be given for operators’ licence, commercial vehicle permits, tourist vehicle licence, and driving licences.

“All the licences and permits stated above will be allowed to operate beyond expiry date provided they have the valid insurance protection,” it said.

The statement was posted on Transport Minister Dr Wee Ka Siong’s Facebook page on Monday (May 31).

The 14-day total lock down, which will commence on Tuesday, is aimed at bringing down surging Covid-19 figures.
