Other Sports: Bobsleigh-Canada team hit by COVID-19 outbreak in Latvia

(Reuters) – Canada’s bobsleigh team have positioned 10 athletes and three workers members into COVID-19 protocols two days earlier than a World Cup occasion in Sigulda, Latvia, Canadian media reported on Wednesday.

With the Beijing Winter Olympics simply 5 weeks away, the team had spent the vacation break in Latvia to minimise journey forward of the Jan. 1-2 World Cup occasion there, the reviews stated.

“Our focus stays now on monitoring and taking care of everyone in our group that is been affected,” Bobsleigh Canada Skeleton was quoted as saying in an announcement.

After Latvia, World Cup occasions are scheduled to happen in Winterberg, Germany from Jan. 8-9 and St Moritz, Switzerland from Jan. 15-16.

Qualification for the Winter Olympics, which start on Feb. 4, might be primarily based on the world rankings as of Jan. 16.
