PETALING JAYA: A total of 463 areas in Selangor will experience unscheduled water cuts due to odour pollution detected at the water intake in Jenderam Hilir, says Air Selangor.

Its corporate communication head Elina Baseri said the odour pollution was detected at the water intake for the Jenderam Hilir Raw Water Pump Station at 11.10am on Tuesday (Aug 31).

This has led to the temporary shutdown of the Semenyih Water Treatment Plant (LRA Sg Semenyih).

“Following the shutdown of the Sungai Semenyih LRA, a total of 463 areas in five Air Selangor regions, namely Petaling (172 areas), Hulu Langat (54 areas), Sepang (194 areas), Putrajaya (23 areas) and Kuala Langat (20 areas) are expected to experience unscheduled water supply disruptions.

“Air Selangor is working with Selangor Water Management Authority (LUAS) to identify the source of the raw water pollution along Sungai Semenyih and its tributaries,” she said in a statement on Tuesday (Aug 31).

A full list of the areas affected by the water supply disruption can be found at its website www.airselangor.com or its app.

She added that Air Selangor had activated its Emergency Response Plan to provide emergency water supply assistance to the affected consumers.

“Air Selangor understands the consumers’ need for clean water, especially now with Covid-19 cases on the rise.

“Air Selangor is making all efforts to minimise the impact of disruption to the affected consumers,” she said.
