PASIR MAS: The Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry has thwarted 714 attempts to smuggle subsidised items underneath the Control of Supplies Act 1961, worth RM6.6mil, final 12 months, says its Deputy Minister Datuk Rosol Wahid.
He mentioned of the entire, 250 instances associated to the smuggling of managed and subsidised items on the nation’s borders nationwide, with seizures valued at RM5.18mil.
He added that up to now, a complete of 31 instances of comparable offences have been recorded on the borders, involving a seizure of products, worth RM1.71mil.
“The ministry views the matter severely, particularly instances occurring on the nation’s worldwide borders with Thailand, Indonesia, Brunei, and Singapore.
“This has a detrimental affect and loss for the nation, as these managed and subsidised items must be loved by Malaysians.
“However, these items have been smuggled by irresponsible events to make profitable income,” he mentioned after the Malaysia-Thailand border reopening monitoring walkabout at Rantau Panjang Immigration, Customs, Quarantine, and Security (ICQS) Complex, right here.
Rosol mentioned the ministry will intensify the enforcement on the borders, particularly at Bukit Kayu Hitam and Wang Kelian, with related businesses following the border reopening at this time.
He mentioned the ministry would really like to remind all merchants to be extra accountable when promoting managed and subsidised items to the general public.
