GEORGE TOWN: The National Security Council (NSC) should review the standard operating procedures (SOPs) for dine-ins at eateries under Phase Two of the National Recovery Plan, says the Penang government.
Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said the state government had held discussions after taking into account the concerns of the people.
“We hope that the SOPs for dine-in at eateries can be reviewed again.
“We hope that operators or workers at eateries must receive at least one dose of the Covid-19 vaccine to ensure the safety of the people.
“Eateries can operate as usual, but we hope that owners can wait for their workers to at least get a dose before they start serving customers.
“However, the customers must be fully vaccinated before they can dine-in.
“According to the current SOP, operators and workers at eateries do not need to be vaccinated.
“Eateries only need to put up a notice stating how many workers have been vaccinated at the outlet,” he told reporters after visiting the Covid-19 screening programme at Taman Manggis Flats here on Thursday (Aug 12).
Earlier, George Town OCPD Asst Comm Soffian Santong said the NSC was very clear that only customers must be fully vaccinated, and not the workers.
“However, the restaurants should display how many of their workers are fully vaccinated and customers can make their choice (whether) to eat at a particular outlet.
“The NSC standard operating procedure is very clear on this and there should not be any confusion on dine-ins at restaurants,” he said.
