IPOH: The police have arrested three men and seized a fake semi-automatic pistol following a video clip that went viral on WhatsApp.

Perak police chief Comm Datuk Mior Faridalathrash Wahid said the three men, aged between 20 and 22, were arrested during two occasions at 2.30pm and 7pm on Friday (Aug 6).

“Acting on information, we first arrested two men who were found riding on a motorcycle near Jalan Kampung Paloh. The third individual was arrested later in the day.

“We came across a video earlier at about 1.30pm whereby one man was seen displaying a pistol in front of a house with two other men,” he said in a statement.

“The act had caused concern among the people and affected public safety,” he said.

In the 12-second clip that had been “forwarded many times”, it showed a man with tattoos on his back openly holding the pistol while gathering outside a house with two other men.

The location of the incident was not disclosed.

Comm Mior Faridalathrash said the three men had admitted to have bought the fake pistol and had gathered in front of a house to drink alcohol on Aug 5.

“The act was recorded by another friend.

“Investigation has been launched under Section 36 of the Arms Act for possessing an imitation gun.

“If found guilty, one can be jailed up to one year or fined a maximum of RM5,000 or both,” he said.

“We would like to advise the people to not make any acts that could affect public safety and cause concern for the society,” he added.
