IPOH: Perak state assemblymen from Perikatan Nasional will take a 50% pay cut for three months with effect from June.
State Perikatan chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu (pic) said the money will go to the Covid-19 relief fund.
“We feel the pulse of the people during this pandemic.
“We also welcome the call from Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to take the pay cut from June to August,” he said in a statement on Thursday (June 3).
Muhyiddin had announced earlier this week that Cabinet ministers, their deputies and himself would forgo three months of salary and channel the money to a fund for expenses related to Covid-19.
This move was emulated by Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Saarani Mohamad and his 10 state executive council members.
Apart from Faizal, other Perikatan state assemblymen include Razman Zakaria (Gunung Semanggol), Datuk Zainol Fadzi Paharudin (Sungai Manik), Mohd Akmal Kamaruddin (Selama), Datuk Nolee Ashilin Mohammed Radzi (Tualang Sekah), Datuk Abdul Yunus Jamahri (Kuala Kurau), Khalil Yahya (Kubu Gajah), Paul Yong Choo Kiong (Tronoh) and A. Sivasubramaniam (Buntong).
