KUALA LUMPUR: The collision involving two LRT trains on the Kelana Jaya line is a serious accident and a thorough investigation will be conducted by authorities, says Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
The Prime Minister also said emergency workers are currently at the scene.
He said he hoped those injured had been given immediate medical attention.
“I view this accident seriously and I have ordered the Transport Ministry and Prasarana Malaysia Berhad to conduct thorough investigations to ascertain the cause of the accident. Stern action will be taken immediately,” he said in a Facebook post late Monday (May 24).
“Priority now must be given to victims of the accident and I have ordered all sides to give their full cooperation in order to ensure that victims get a comprehensive treatment, since we are also facing a worsening Covid-19 pandemic,” he added.
Dang Wangi OCPD Asst Comm Mohamad Zainal Abdullah said 47 commuters suffered severe injuries while 166 others had minor injuries in the collision at the Ampang Park LRT station involving two trains.
All those injured are receiving medical treatment at Hospital Kuala Lumpur (HKL).
It is understood that the accident involved trains number 40 and 81.
One of the trains was empty but the other was carrying passengers.
Police said that it received reports of the accident at 8.57pm.
