Political situation in Johor is still calm, says state rural development chief

JOHOR BARU: The political temperature in Johor is still calm, says state agriculture, agro-based and rural development committee chairman Datuk Samsolbari Jamali.

The Semarang assemblyman, who is also Johor Umno secretary, added that what had happened at the Federal level would not affect the state government’s main focus.

“We will still remain focused on our people’s agenda, such as giving vaccination and also our food bank initiative.

“Our priority right now is to help the people, as we are still facing the Covid-19 pandemic,” he said when contacted here on Thursday (July 8).

When asked if Johor Umno would be calling for a meeting over the party’s decision to withdraw its support for Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, Samsolbari said no meetings have been called yet.

The Johor government, which is led by Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Hasni Mohammad, has a simple majority of 29 seats over Pakatan Harapan, which has 27 seats.

Out of the 29 state seats, Umno has 14, Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) has 12 seats, MIC has two seats and PAS has only one seat.
