PETALING JAYA: Academic Prof Dr Edmund Terence Gomez has resigned from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission’s (MACC) Consultation and Corruption Prevention Panel.

In a letter to the panel’s chairperson Tan Sri Borhan Dolah on Monday (Dec 27), Gomez stated that his resignation was in protest over the panel’s inaction as regards to allegations relating to a top MACC official.

In the letter, Gomez claimed he had raised the difficulty with Borhan on Nov 12 and had requested him to name a gathering of the panel on the allegations.

“I wrote to you on Nov 12, asking that you just convene a gathering of our panel. You responded instantly stating that you’d name a gathering and that you’d ask the MACC’s administrative employees to organise it,” stated Gomez.

He added that he wrote to Borhan once more on Nov 26 with extra info on the top official’s enterprise hyperlinks.

Gomez then stated that he had raised the difficulty once more with Borhan on Dec 14 as he had not obtained a response to his second letter.

He then added that he’s submitting his resignation as he had stated that he could be tendering his resignation from the MACC panel if he didn’t hear from Borhan.

Gomez had been appointed to the MACC panel from June 1, 2020 and would have ended his time period on May 31, 2022.
