Proposal to raise scrap rubber floor price to be discussed in Budget 2023 preparation


KUANTAN: The proposal to improve the floor price of scrap rubber to RM3.50 per kg will be used as enter in drafting Budget 2023, says Datuk Mohd Shahar Abdullah (pic).

The Deputy Finance Minister mentioned the Finance Ministry was holding engagement periods with related events to receive enter and hear to their views to introduce the appropriate initiatives and incentives for the individuals.

“Of course, we are going to look into the proposal in the preparation of Budget 2023. The Rubber Production Incentive (IPG) will improve if the floor price of (scrap) rubber will increase from RM2.50,” he mentioned.

He mentioned this to reporters after officiating on the Pekebun Kecil Makmur programme and presenting Commercial Replanting (TSK) dividend funds of the Rubber Industry Smallholders Development Authority (Risda) 2022 at Dewan Semai Bakti, Felda Bukit Goh, right here Thursday (July 14).

Earlier, Risda chairman Datuk Seri Mohd Salim Mohd Sharif in his speech urged the federal government to raise the floor price of scrap rubber from RM2.50 to RM3.50 per kg.

He mentioned this was due to issues that rubber smallholders would change to planting oil palm timber if the price of rubber was low.

“…oil palm smallholders managed to generate a month-to-month revenue of RM1,400 to RM2,000, whereas rubber smallholders are solely ready to get RM1,200 a month, regardless of planting the crops on land of an analogous dimension,” he mentioned.

At the occasion, a complete of 130 contributors involving three tasks, particularly TSK Nadak Seberang, TSK Orang Asli Bukit Bakong and TSK Orang Asli Gedong Siam, obtained TSK dividends amounting to RM961,957.37 for the January to June 2022 interval. – Bernama
