BARCELONA: Real Sociedad have signed one of Spanish football’s all-time greats, David Silva (pix), on a two-year contract.
The Basque club who will play Europa League football this coming season confirmed the transfer late Monday.
Silva was part of the Spain squad that won two European Championships and a World Cup, and he spent 10 seasons at Manchester City where there are now plans to build a statue in his honour.
He had been expected to join Lazio but Real Sociedad convinced him a move to San Sebastian was a better option and he is likely to be given the No. 21 shirt worn by loan player Martin Odegaard last season before he returned to Real Madrid. – dpa
