(Reuters) – Rivian Automotive Inc will delay deliveries of its electrical pickup truck and sports activities utility car with big battery packs to 2023, Chief Executive RJ Scaringe mentioned in a mail to clients on Tuesday.

Scaringe mentioned majority of Rivian’s roughly 71,000 preorders for its R1T pickup truck and R1S SUV within the United States and Canada have been for a model of the automobiles with a small battery pack choice, which offers 314 miles of vary on one cost.

“In order to serve the biggest quantity of preorder holders, we can be prioritizing constructing the Adventure Package with Large pack battery in the course of the subsequent 12 months,” Scaringe mentioned within the mail that was posted by a Rivian buyer on Reddit, a social media platform.

Rivian has delivered 386 of the 652 automobiles it has constructed, together with its pickup and SUV.

The larger battery pack, known as the Max pack, is predicted to give a mileage of 400 miles on a single cost. Only 20% of the preorders have been for the Max pack.
