KUALA TERENGGANU: The Terengganu authorities intends to upgrade the prevailing 25-year-old undersea pipeline that provides handled water to Redang Island which frequently experiences unscheduled water disruptions.

State infrastructure, public amenities, utilities and inexperienced know-how committee chairman Dr Mamad Puteh mentioned an allocation of RM120mil was needed to change the 23km pipeline.

“Residents often face unscheduled water supply disruptions on the resort island as well as some consumers in the Setiu district.

“Every time there is a broken section, we lose almost 50% of our clean water supply and even have to incur high repair costs of RM70,000. We are trying to find an allocation of RM120mil as a long-term solution,” he instructed Bernama.

According to him, each time there was a damaged part alongside the pipeline, Syarikat Air Terengganu Sdn Bhd (Satu) had to cut back the stress to forestall extra water from leaking. .

“This will cause users living in the area to face water supply disruptions due to very low pressure. Broken sections are becoming more frequent and the latest was two weeks ago,” he mentioned.

Recently, Satu had to implement scheduled water provide in a number of areas in 4 districts, specifically Marang, Hulu Terengganu, Setiu and Besut to guarantee customers might rejoice Hari Raya Aidilfitri comfortably.
