PORT DICKSON: More than RM60mil has been allotted for restore of rural roads and implementation of social amenities programmes in states affected by the current floods, stated Rural Development Minister Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid (pic).
He stated the quantity included RM37.2mil for restore of village roads, whereas RM35mil was for the social amenities programmes, nationwide.
“As of final Jan 9, a complete of 356 functions for rural roads have been obtained which included for building, upgrading and restore of services and infrastructure, and 394 functions for social amenities programmes, together with in Orang Asli villages that have been hit by the floods,” he informed reporters.
He stated this after presenting the “Bantuan Pembelian Barangan Keperluan Asas” (BPBKA) help of RM2,500 every to 300 flood victims in the Sri Tanjung state constituency on the Majestic Hall right here on Friday (Jan 21).
Meanwhile, Mahdzir stated contractors that have been appointed to do home restore work and the development of recent homes below the ministry could be required to finish the job in 4 to 6 months.
It was earlier reported that the Rural Development Ministry had allotted RM150mil to restore homes and services affected by the floods in rural areas in eight states.
On the BPBKA help, which was dealt with by the Implementation Coordination Unit of the Prime Minister’s Department, Mahdzir stated the Federal authorities had allotted RM15.1mil for the aim and RM4.63mil in Bantuan Wang Ihsan of RM1,000 every for flood victims. – Bernama
