MOSCOW (Reuters) – Russia has deployed its Bastion coastal missile defence system to a distant a part of the Kuril island chain within the Pacific close to Japan, the Ministry of Defence’s Zvezda TV channel mentioned on Thursday.

Japan lays declare to the Russian-held southern Kuril islands that Tokyo calls the Northern Territories, a territorial row that dates again to the top of World Struggle Two when Soviet troops seized them from Japan.

The dispute has prevented them signing a proper peace treaty.

Russia used massive touchdown ships to ship gear and personnel to the distant Matua island within the central a part of the island chain, Zvezda mentioned.

Russia is attempting to beef up its navy infrastructure on the island chain, the Ministry of Defence introduced in August.
