Sabah allows journalists to work freely without any time restrictions during MCO

KOTA KINABALU: There will be no restrictions on working hours for journalists in Sabah, says Sabah Covid-19 spokesman Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun (pic).

He said the state government is rescinding its previous standard operating procedure (SOP) to limit working hours to a 12-hour period from 7am to 7pm.

“The role of the mass media is important in helping the government to convey and disseminate authentic and up-to-date information to the people,” said Masidi.

He added that during his daily Covid-19 briefing on Tuesday (June 1) that all media practitioners should abide by the SOP set by the National Security Council and Health Ministry at all times.

This comes after the Sabah Journalists Association (SJA) wrote in on Monday (May 31) to appeal to allow media personnel in the state to work past the 7am to 7pm period mandated during the current lockdown.

In an immediate statement to respond to the state government’s move, the SJA thanked Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor and Masidi for swift response to the request to review the SOP limiting the hours of work for media personnel.

The SJA said that it was a right and practical direction taken by state government which augured well for the media in Sabah.
