Sabah kicks off Covid-19 vaccination programme for kids aged 5 to 11

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah has began its Covid-19 immunisation programme for youngsters aged from 5 to 11 on Thursday (Feb 3).

Five hospitals had been chosen to kickstart the programme.

They are the Women and Children’s Hospital in Likas, Duchess of Kent Hospital Sandakan in addition to the Keningau, Lahad Datu dan Tawau hospitals.

State Health Department director Datuk Dr Rose Nani Mudin mentioned the programme can be expanded to different elements of the state beginning Feb 5.

A complete of 251 vaccination centres together with authorities and personal hospitals can be ready for this objective, she mentioned.

She mentioned to date, a complete of 23,578 youngsters have registered for their vaccination by way of the MySejahtera app.

Dr Rose mentioned the immunisation programme for youngsters in Sabah can be performed by way of walk-ins, outreach programmes, off-sites, faculties and public PPVs.

All jabs can be administered for free, she mentioned.

Children taking the Covid-19 vaccines can be injected both on their arm or thigh, she mentioned

“Therefore, make sure to wear appropriate clothing that is easily foldable for this purpose,” Dr Rose suggested.

She additionally inspired dad and mom to register their youngsters for vaccination and to give them paracetamol if their youngsters get fever following their vaccination.

The dose is 15mg/kg/ per physique weight, she added.
