Sarawak records nine positive cases

KUCHING: Nine more positive Covid-19 cases has been reported in Sarawak yesterday (April 24), bringing the total number of cases in the state to 468 since the first positive case was reported on March 13.

Of these cases, seven are from Kuching and one each from Samarahan and Serian.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas in a press conference on the daily Covid-19 update said 17 patients have recovered and were discharged from the hospital, bringing the total of recovery cases to 148.

Of the 17 cases, 12 are from Kuching, four from Samarahan and one from Betong.

He said while the number of persons under investigation (PUIs) had seen a reduction to 147 cases as compared to 257 PUIs reported on Thursday.

The total of PUIs that are still awaiting laboratory test results is 499.

Uggah, who is also the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman, said to date there are 50 healthcare workers in Kuching that tested positive for Covid-19.

“Twenty are from the Kuching conference cluster, while the remaining thirty involved minor clusters,” he said.

As for Sarawakians returning from overseas and other states, there are 234 more person under surveillance (PUS) and have been quarantined.

“To date there are 1,302 PUS being quarantined at 18 hotels across the state, while a total of 578 people have completed the quarantine period and were allowed to return home,” he said.

He also said public compliance with the movement control order (MCO) has remained at 97 percent.

He conveyed his appreciation to all Sarawkians for their cooperation and urged them do continue to do so in order to break the chain of the spread of Covid-19.
