KUCHING: The state government is taking stringent measures to contain the Covid-19 pandemic to prevent a third wave of the virus in Sarawak.
Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said following the advice of the National Security Council (MKN), programmes such as disinfection and restriction on movements would be undertaken.
“I hope there is no third wave. The MKN has classified areas which need to be inspected and where movement is controlled.
“In Kuala Lumpur, they have also decided that there are some areas that needed Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) so that what happens in there does not overflow to the outside.
“That is also why a strict adherence to movement control order (MCO) between districts is crucial,” he told a press conference yesterday.
He was fielding a question on whether the state government was prepared for a third wave of infections.
As of yesterday, Kuching is classified as the only red zone in Sarawak with 118 recorded Covid-19 cases.
