SIBU: Sarawak is on target to achieve 50,000 doses of vaccine a day, says Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian.

Even so, the state is aiming higher – 60,000 daily doses – in order to complete its vaccination programme by August, noted the state Housing and Local Government Minister.

“Currently, with 121 Covid-19 vaccination centres, 80 at general practitioners and 12 private health clinics throughout Sarawak, we are on target to achieve administering 50,000 doses per day.

“Let’s set our next target at 60,000 per day so that we can complete our vaccination as early as possible – by August,” he said in a Facebook post.

Dr Sim also announced the operation of the vaccination centre at Universiti Malaysia Sarawak, the first mega vaccination centre in the state.

“The first two days of operation started small with 1,000 doses per day. This was increased to 3,000 yesterday (June 16) and there will be 5,000 doses by Friday (June 18),” he said.

Meanwhile, he said the state had received another 44,000 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech Covid-19 vaccine under the PICK (National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme) weekly schedule.

The vaccines arrived at Kuching International Airport (KIA) on Wednesday (June 16) and more are expected to arrive at Miri Airport today (June 17) and KIA tomorrow (June 18).
