KUCHING: Sarawak police commissioner Datuk Aidi Ismail is the latest high-profile individual to test positive for Covid-19.
Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) deputy chairman Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah confirmed this at a press conference here yesterday.
“Yes, I am aware that a high-ranking police officer at this time is also down with Covid-19, but everything now is under control.
“It is not that when we are tested positive, it means that we are gravely ill. A lot of cases are like all of us (asymptomatic).
“He just needs to rest, at present, there is no specific vaccine (for treatment),” said Abdul Karim in response to a question from a member of the press.
Aidi was warded at Sarawak General Hospital on Tuesday night.
In a similar development, Abdul Karim said Assistant Transport Minister Datuk Dr Jerip Susil might be an asymptomatic case as well.
He was responding to speculations that the Mambong assemblyman had been discharged by the hospital after only testing positive for the virus last week.
“I have not received any information on this, but I feel that Dr Jerip’s case is maybe similar to Bandar Kuching MP Dr Kelvin Yii.
Dr Yii was infected by Covid-19 last month and has been discharged after testing negative following his second test while in quarantine.
“We at the ministry level, have a procedure on our own. There must be a reason (why Dr Jerip is discharged), I doubt that he (Dr Jerip) is allowed to wander anywhere if he is really discharged,” Abdul Karim said.
