BUTTERWORTH: Seven notifications have been issued to employers by the Seberang Prai City Council during a compliance checking operation at foreign worker hostels here to ensure that they apply for hostel permits.
The council said the notifications were issued on Saturday (July 10) under the Local Government Act 1976 and would help the employers expedite their permit applications.
“The joint operation (in Taman Ampang Jajar) was led by the council and assisted by police, the Health Ministry, Home Ministry and Labour Department,” the council said in a statement posted on Facebook on Sunday (July 11).
The state Labour Department also opened a case file to formalise follow-up monitoring that will ensure the workers’ living quarters are in good condition and in compliance with regulations.
Apart from checking on standard operating procedure (SOP) compliance, the operation was also conducted to ensure that the hostels were operating with approval from the authorities, and that licensing as well as other requirements were met.
The Health Ministry also conducted checks on all foreign workers who had been asked to wear pink bracelets for home quarantine to ensure that they remained within the premises during the quarantine period.
The operation found that all the workers had complied with the orders given.
