Senior executives arrested for disposing untreated factory waste into river

PASIR GUDANG: Two senior executives of a meals processing plant have been detained for allegedly discharging factory waste into Sungai Perembi close to right here.

Johor Department of Environment director Dr Famey Yusof stated the officers – a director and a supervisor – have been picked up on the premises at 4pm on Tuesday (Jan 4).

“They have been detained to help with the investigation for discharging of the untreated effluent wastewater into the river.

“The director and supervisor, of their 40s and 50s, have been later delivered to the Seri Alam police headquarters at round 5pm for additional motion,” he stated on Wednesday (Jan 5).

Famey added that though investigation confirmed no air pollution occurred within the river, the officers have been detained because of their act of disposing untreated factory waste into a river.

He stated the case was being investigated beneath Section 25(1) of the Environmental Quality Act 1974 which carries a high quality of no more than RM100,000 or 5 years imprisonment or each.
